Troubleshooting

It’s frustrating when your heating or cooling system fails. There could be a simple reason why the system isn’t working properly. Before you call for service, check the following:

No Heat

Is there electrical power?
Check the electrical breaker/fuse in hydro panel
Check the furnace power switch- normally located on ceiling or wall near furnace
Check the thermostat settings
Check for a dirty furnace filter
On high-efficiency furnaces, check the furnace vents for blockage by snow or debris
Is the pilot on? (Standing pilot models only)

No Cooling

Is there electrical power?
Check the electrical breaker/fuse
Check the cooling/furnace power switch - normally located on ceiling or wall near furnace
Check the thermostat settings
Check if the outdoor fan is operating
Check furnace filter.
If filter is clean, you may need refrigerant

If ice is forming on your air conditioner, or the pipes connected to it, turn it off immediately and call for service.
