Happy Holidays

It’s hard to believe that Christmas and New Year’s Eve are both around the corner.

They are, though; and everyone here at ClimateCare wants to wish the best of the holiday season to you and your family.

It’s been a very rewarding year for all ClimateCare members and we have you to thank for it:

Before saying goodbye to 2017, why not take one last look at the blogs that resonated most with you – and share some easy-to-follow winter tips for your home heating systems too?

February: Convert Your Wood Fireplace to Gas

While there’s a certain charm in having a wood-burning fireplace, there’s nothing quite like the performance and convenience of a gas fireplace in your home.

February’s blog looked at factors to consider when converting a wood fireplace to gas, such as:

  • Location of your existing fireplace
  • Gas line and layout of your house
  • The new fireplace model you wish to purchase and install

You’ll also learn the steps ClimateCare takes to take out your wood-burning fireplace and fit a new gas model in its place perfectly.

Cold BasementMay: Cold Basement, Warm Upstairs

It’s a problem many homeowners have asked us about: “Why is my basement so cold while my upstairs is so warm?

It’s a phenomenon known as “stacking”, which was explored in May’s blog.

We all know heat rises when you crank up the furnace.

What happens, though, is that heat naturally gravitates towards areas with greater air density (upper floors) vs. lower air density (your basement).

The more warm air is in a room, the denser it becomes, and the more warm air wants to go there.

You’ll also learn what you can do to mitigate stacking (and how ClimateCare can help).

September: What Happens if I Skip Furnace Maintenance?

September is one of the busiest times of year with things like back-to-school and the end of summer vacation.

So it’s understandable you don’t have time to think about scheduled furnace maintenance.

In short, here’s what happens if it does get skipped:

Warm up your homeHome heating winter care tips

Who knows how cold it’ll get this winter.

Besides a regular home heating system tune-up, here are some other things you can do to ensure your furnace runs as efficiently as possible:

  • Make sure outside vents and chimneys are clear and unblocked
  • Lower your thermostat and put on a sweater (this will help you save money too)
  • Keep vents in unused rooms open (this helps keep warm air distribution consistent)
  • Remove furniture, tables, etc. away from vents
